In 1997 he was a biochemical engineering student at the University of Iowa, where he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He worked for General Mills sweeping Cheerios dust from the floor in his home town of Cedar Rapids, Iowa for $12 an hour.
He won the Fresh Faces of Iowa modeling contest in 1997, sparking a modeling career in NYC. Tho a "big star" now, his fraternity brothers say he's still "just one of the guys" and keeps in touch with them in Chicago.
